A traffic accident in Johnson County, Kansas early Tuesday morning claimed the life of a Hiawatha man and his passenger.
The Kansas Highway Patrol says 32-year-old Jason Richard Mees was traveling on Interstate-35 south of Gardner when his car left the roadway for an unknown reason shortly after 1:30 a.m.
The vehicle then entered back onto the roadway and began to roll.
Mees and a passenger, 32-year-old Jennifer Curbow of Edgerton, were ejected from the vehicle.
The patrol says a van driven by a Gardner woman struck Mees who was lying in the roadway.
Mees and Curbow were pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the van was not hurt.
