A Pawnee City, Nebraska man is in jail, charged with stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from his elderly uncle.
A five-month long investigation by the Nebraska State Patrol has led to the arrest of 56-year-old Lewis Rakosnik on felony charges of knowing and intentional abuse of a vulnerable adult.
The investigation revealed over an 11-month period Rakosnik liquidated more than $600,000 of his uncle’s assets.
In February of last year, Rakosnik was contacted by a friend of his uncle’s and asked to care for the elderly gentleman who was ill. In March, Rakosnik moved into his uncle’s Pawnee City home and was given durable power of attorney.
The investigation revealed during that time, he sold land, cashed out CD’s and transferred money from this uncle’s bank account.
Rakosnik was taken into custody without incident Tuesday at his uncle’s home in Pawnee City.
He’s being held in the Johnson County, Nebraska Jail.
