Troy at Jackson Heights January 10th 2012
The Troy girls improved to 6-2 on the season with a 51-39 victory at Jackson Heights. The Trojans led by five at halftime and outscored the Cobras 16-8 in the decisive third quarter. Despite not scoring in the first quarter, Claire Turpin led all scorers with 17 points. Morgan Thomas had 16 for the Jackson Heights girls who fell to 2-7 on the season.
The Jackson Heights boys got three free throws in the final seconds of the first half from Bryan Becker who capped a 7-7 performance from the line with an 11 point effort putting the Cobras ahead 24-22 at the break. They never reliquished the lead with a 17-8 third quarter burst to pull away for a 60-38 victory and snap a three game skid. Becker finished wih 14 points next to Cody Duryea‘s 17 and two other Cobras recorded double digits as the team improved to 5-4. The Troy boys were led by freshman Collin Jasper with 11 points as they fall to 1-7.
