Twelve high school Cross Country teams in Northeast Kansas are ranked in the Preseason Coaches Poll, although no locals are found in the top three.
The Riverside boys have the highest rank at number four in Class 2A. The Washington County boys are ranked fifth in the same poll followed by Valley Falls and Troy, while Nemaha Valley‘s boys are also mentioned. The Frankfort boys are sixth in Class 1A just ahead of Axtell, while the Axtell girls are also receiving votes. In Class 3A, the Jeff County North girls are ranked sixth while the Chargers boys received votes as did the Horton girls and both KC Christian teams. The Hiawatha boys also received one vote in Class 4A.
