HORTON CROSS COUNTRY RESULTS

Royal Valley boys win big meet while Hiawatha boys and Jeff West girls second.

The Royal Valley boys edged Hiawatha and Wathena while the Jeff West girls were second just ahead of Holton at the Horton Invitational Cross Country Meet on Thursday. More than 20 teams and 180 varsity athletes competed on a windy day at the Lakeview Country Club.
The Holton girls got a one-two finish from Rachelle Harmon and Conner Strader while Jaycee Wells was 12th for the Lady Cats. Taryn Brees of Jeff West was third with Carrie Finson eighth and Jade Brake 13th. Leah Murata led the Horton girls with a fifth place finish while D-Neal Jenson was 10th for Royal Valley. Jessica Carter placed 14th to lead the Hiawatha girls while Lori Demint and Megan Plattner ran 16th and 17th for Sabetha.
Cory Keehn of Jackson Heights placed second overall between two Silver Lake runners while Cody Miller was fourth and teammate Elliot Nold 10th for the Wathena boys. Cale Heiniger led Hiawatha in fifth while Jordan Marable was 13th. Holton was paced by Garrett Van Winkle in sixth place just ahead of Adam Pineau from Pleasant Ridge and Micah Harmon of the Wildcats. Gerald Christian ran eighth for champion Royal Valley but Joel Haverkamp, Louis Mathis and Lucas Stumpf also placed in the top 16. Marc Ellis was 17th for Doniphan West while Jeremy Letterman of Elwood was 19th and Trevor Lutz of ACCHS rounded out the top 20.
